Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Another form of evidence-based therapeutic treatment modality, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) uses bilateral brain stimulation (or eye movements) to help work through and process traumatic memories. This helps to re-process the memories and allows them to be “filed away.” EMDR does not completely erase the memories, but it allows them to be remembered in detail. Once EMDR is completed, you will no longer feel the same intense emotions, body sensations, or negative beliefs that were associated with your memories. The “file away” process allows you to move on and create new positive memories.
